Fellows in Philly
City of brotherly love or City that throws snowballs at Santa? Both.
Five of the nine MPRB park commissioners, as well as some staff, traveled to Philadelphia this June for the “Greater and Greener” parks conference. We had a great time of learning together in seminars and experiencing the parks of Philly up close. In reflecting on my time at the conference and in these first six months of public service as a commissioner, I can say confidently that we as commissioners are striving to work together to do what is best for our Minneapolis parks. We are going to get stuff done.
That said, I agree with Chris Sarullo in the first link above that “brotherly love does not imply the lack of conflict.” We will disagree and have differences of opinion about the best path forward…but that is just part of being a team. Through any differences in policy or priorities, I commit to being respectful and building community with this group of commissioners (and all District 4 residents!). I will also promise not to hide any snowballs behind the board dais.
